Swobbee builds BaaS Stations

Today’s power storage systems offer a decentralized energy source away from the power grid. The mobile energy supply from these power grids is based on high-performance batteries that are noise- and emission-free, thus presenting a viable alternative to gasoline- or diesel-powered generators. Despite all advances in the field, the travel time of battery-powered vehicles is still limited which is why smart cities around the world continue to expand their charging station infrastructure.

German startup Swobbee produces flexibly available mobile energy. The Swobee Station is a modular battery exchange station that provides battery replacement services within 30 seconds. The stations are weatherproof and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, making them applicable for eScooters, eBikes, and Cargo eBikes, for example. Various battery types can be included in the station; among them GreenPack and Kumpan. Further, Swobee’s software offers benefits for operators and users alike. Operators get insights into user recognition, monitoring, billing, and statistics while users can easily find the nearest available station via their smartphone app.

ReJoule creates Battery Health Insights

Apart from the materials and the need for increased range, maintaining battery health is one of the key challenges in the electrification of vehicles. To overcome this challenge, startups and scaleups are working on several solutions that increase battery performance and processing. They are, for example, developing AI-based battery management systems (BMS) that deliver battery analytics and thus are able to predict any problems that might occur.

US-American startup ReJoule creates a battery management system that monitors the performance of large format lithium batteries. The system reports critical battery data using the Internet of Things (IoT) thus optimizing battery lifetime and making batteries more reliable and long-lasting. ReJoule’s battery management system is suitable for integration into Electric Vehicles (EVs), where it enables real-time diagnostics. Moreover, ReJoule’s proprietary chip analyzes battery health in real-time to predict the battery’s performance at any given moment.

Numocity develops a Digital Platform for EV Charging

Electric vehicles are becoming mainstream as their adoption is growing globally. This brings a new set of challenges to light, including creating an efficient and cost-effective charging infrastructure. This growing demand creates opportunities for startups and scaleups across the ecosystem, who build tech-driven solutions to overcome this challenge.

Indian startup Numocity develops a platform for the electric vehicle charging ecosystem. Based on Artificial Intelligence, the end-to-end digital technology platform connects electric vehicles and battery manufacturers, charging stations, and fleets to cover EV charging, battery swapping, and smart grid integration. Further, the data from the platform is used for fleet monitoring, load distribution, and driver behavior monitoring, thereby making it an intelligent middleware platform for electric vehicle charging.

Raido manufactures Swappable Batteries for Micromobility

The battery is the heart of every electric vehicle. Because of this, research estimates the battery demand to grow 14-to-19 times between now and 2030. With this rising demand, players across the value chain need to scale up production for more sustainable batteries. A universal standardized swappable battery that can be mounted on any type of transportation option (incl. EVs and micromobility) is one of the easiest ways to meet the rising battery demands.

Raido, a startup based in Ireland, manufactures swappable batteries that can be mounted on almost any scooter, thereby reducing one of the main expenses for scooter sharing operators. Further, the battery is equipped with intelligent power control, monitoring, and self-diagnostic capabilities and can be installed within just 10 minutes. Additionally, Raido offers an app that controls and activates the lock system and also handles authorization.

Skoon works on Battery Sharing

Over the last few years, EVs have become much more prominent to the public. Advancements in battery technology, for example, make electric vehicles a popular alternative for the urban commute. Additionally, pollution, climate change, and congestion all represent global issues that are pushing governments to adopt EVs faster. However, the lack of readily available EV charging infrastructure still is a deterrent to the large-scale adoption of electric vehicles. One solution to this challenge is battery sharing.

Dutch startup Skoon connects battery owners and users. By enabling users to rent renewable energy stored in batteries via its battery sharing platform, Skoon provides a clean and financially competitive alternative to diesel power. Skoon’s platform offers batteries for a variety of use cases, from EVs, maritime, and concerts & events to construction.
